Team Kaitiaki

'Kaitiaki' is a Māori word, referring to guardians.  Our Leadership team at the school is made up of the Team Lead Teachers, staff with Curriculum Leader responsibilities, and staff with Student Leadership responsibilities.  These teams are coordinated by our three senior leaders.

Principal: Mike Farrelly

Mike has been school principal at RBS since 2007.  Previous to that he was principal at Pauatahanui School and Deputy Principal at Adventure Primary School.  He graduated from Wellington College of Education and has taught at variety of schools in both the public and private sector. Mike is especially in brain-based learning and how recent finding in neurology impact on students. He was fortunate enough to attend a 'Summer School' at the University of Santa Barbara which focussed on Neuro-science and learning.
Mike is an avid snow-skiier and has enjoyed skiing in both the States and Canada.  An initiation into heli-skiing was a somewhat 'humbling experience'. Contact Mike

Deputy Principal (Student Engagement): Prisca MacDonald

Prisca is part of the Senior Leadership team.  She graduated from Canterbury University in 1998 and has worked in a range of schools and across a range of year levels, both in New Zealand and England. She has a special interest in the impact of teacher-student relationships on learning and in developing conceptual understanding through a ‘constructivist’ approach to learning. In her spare time, Prisca loves to be outdoors with her children and dog.  She loves cooking for friends, hearty debate, gardening, and has an eclectic taste in music – Bach, Coldplay & Jacques Loussier are all favourites! Deputy Principal (Student Achievement): Julie Morris

Julie joined RBS in 2015 after working at that Ministry of Education.  She has worked in a variety of schools since graduating from Victoria University and has a wide range of skills relating particularly to assessment and planning.

Although she lives in Wellington, Julie was raised on the coast, and after living in Australia and the UK, is enjoying the chance to return to the beach!  Julie has a love for literature, horses, good company and life-long learning.  Contact Julie
